TRAVEL  Mexiko

Offshore flyfishing in Mexico -  an absolute dream adventure !!

Escaping the long winter nights, basking on the beach,  and the fly rod in your baggage - who would not dream of that.

I made this dream come true for the seventh time, and it was awesome!

It takes quite a while to get there but once arrived at the Huatulco airport, located about 300 miles south of Acapulco, we  immediately forget about the cold and the dark, and get the feeling that you would just like to stay forever.

The ride to the hotel, which is located right on the beach, takes about one hour. The warm temperatures make us long for a cold drink, which, of course, takes care of our first activity after arriving in the hotel. Once there, it immediately feels like home.

The fishery: The Pacific has quite everything to offer, here it is mainly blue water fishing. The surf is pretty strong in this area, about six foot average. That makes the casting from the shore sometimes a little bit challenging, but on the other side, it sometimes draws huge predators close to the shore. A few days before we left we saw how a giant jack crevally snapped an 0,7mm(80lb test) line of a local guy, who was fishing with a lure from the beach. I wouldn't dare to compare the fishery with that in Baja but comparing the prices: Room for two: $40,--;Lunch: $ 4,--;Beer:$1,--;Boat for 1/2 day: $150,--

Like mentioned- the best fishing occurs from a boat, or panga and there are three options:

-far out, into the blue water. Tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi), sailfish and marlin are the aim of the game.

-along the rocky coastline. Quite everything is available here. Pargo, Snapper, Jacks, bonito (skipjack), sierra, needlefish up to six feet!!, blue runner,  etc.

-along the beaches, outside from the surf. Jack crevally and roosterfish, one of the most desired sport fish on the fly rod, are to catch here.

Let me know, if you want to know more about it.
